Products Virage VDF-to-XML Export
Plug-in
The VDF-to-XML plugin for the Virage Video Logger provides customers
with a standards-based metadata exchange export capability from within
their own application framework. Specifically, metadata extracted as part
of the video cataloging process can currently be exported only to either
HTML or ALE. The addition of this plug-in will allow for metadata resonation
in either the W3C-standard SMIL (Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language)
specification or the RealNetworks proprietary format called ROB, both
of which are based on XML syntax. SMIL is supported primarily by RealNetworks
RealPlayer, with upcoming support by Microsoft's Media Player. Both SMIL
and ROB provide a mechanism by which multimedia in the form of video,
audio, still images, and text can be presented in a time-ordered synchronized
manner. This lends itself well to the nature of metadata derived by the
Virage VideoLogger during multimedia cataloging. In addition, extraction
of metadata from the VideoLogger into a generic XML document is also available.
This includes extraction of the keyframes as JPEG images with references
in the XML file, allowing this information to be imported into other tools
with minimal effort.
